Q: What do kids do at a Mad Science birthday party?
A: During the first 40-45 minutes, the Mad Scientist will engage children with amazing science demonstrations that are conducted with the help of your birthday child and guests. Some examples of experiments that may be included are: fitting a hardboiled egg into an impossibly small space, seeing flash paper disappear and creating bubbling potions with dry ice. During the final 10-15 minutes of the party, the kids will make Slime, Silly Putty or a Bouncy Ball to take home. Adding on a rocket launch will add 5-10 minutes to the length of your party, while cotton candy will likely add 10-30 minutes - depending upon how many children are present. (NOTE: During cotton candy, the children are not engaged the whole time - just long enough to get their own treat - leaving time to do other activities you have planned).
A: There are several party formats that we offer, depending upon factors such as your party location, whether you are indoors or outdoors, and whether or not the room can be darkened.
A: Our party schedule fills up quickly. We suggest you book well in advance to get the date and time you want. Generally, at least 3 weeks in advance is recommended to get your desired time slot. (NOTE: 2:30 PM is the most popular time slot). Certain holidays (such as Halloween) book up VERY quickly!
A: You can fill out an online request form by clicking on the “Book now” button. We will respond to your request within 1 business day. You can also call us at (818) 909-6777 and we’ll be happy to schedule your party over the phone. We require a $50 booking fee to book your party and we accept Visa and MasterCard. Your booking fee is non-refundable. If you need to cancel or change your party, you have one full year to use your booking fee towards the new date or another service.
A: On Saturdays and Sundays we have set party times of: 11:30 AM or earlier, 2:30 PM, or 5:30 PM or later so that our scientists have enough time to get from one location to another. Parties can also be scheduled Monday-Friday at any time. All dates and times are subject to availability.
A: No. All we need is an estimate of the number of children you expect to attend. We ask that you plan for the largest number of children expected. On the day of the party, you will be charged only for the number of kids that actually attend.
A: All our themes revolve around science. If you have another party theme, we can notify the Mad Scientist, and he/she will do his/her best to incorporate your theme into the experiments and language that is used, as long as your theme is not a registered trademark.
A: The Mad Scientist will arrive at least 15 minutes early to set up. They will be ready to start the show at the time you booked. It is best to start your party at least 30 minutes before your Mad Science show is scheduled to start, to ensure the Mad Scientist is able to start on time.
A: We ask that you have enough space for the Mad Scientist and for your guests to be comfortable. The kids should be seated on the floor several feet back from the performance area - no chairs please.
A: The Mad Scientist will need a medium to large sized back yard or open space to launch the rockets. If you are not sure whether you have sufficient space, you can always add the rocket launch and then the Mad Scientist will assess whether or not it is safe to launch the rockets on the day of the party. You will not be charged for the upgrade if the rockets cannot be launched safely.
A: We will need a table - a card table or larger work best. (If you cannot provide us with a table, please let us know). We will also need access to hot water for experiments, and possibly access to electricity (based on the party you choose - please consult the Mad Science office). Please let us know if your party location will not have either of these.
A: Any changes to your party must be scheduled at least three business days before your party.
A: The Mad Scientist will begin at the scheduled start time and continue until our portion of the entertainment is finished. We will not be able to stop for any other activities (ex. food or cake). Do not serve food during the Mad Science performance. Please plan accordingly.
A: We perform rain or shine. If you can't change your outdoor party to an indoor party, please review our cancellation policy (below).
A: We do not provide the Mad Scientist’s personal contact information. If you would like the Mad Scientist to call you on the day of your party, we can make a note for them to do so.
A: Our parties are appropriate for children between 4 to 12 years of age. Younger siblings generally watch, but do not actively participate in the party and should not make a take home project. We determine the number of attendees based on the number of children between the ages of 4 and 12 that make a take-home.
A: We require a $50 booking fee to book your party. At the end of your party, you will pay the Mad Scientist the remaining balance. You can pay with cash, check, or provide authorization to charge the credit card. Please fill out the form provided by your Mad Scientist.
A. The Mad Scientists do work for tips - a 15-20% tip is very much appreciated. If you have any other questions, please call us: 818-909-6777.
A: Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org at least 4 hours before the party starts. We will do our best to resolve any issue that arises.
